2004-11-19 - New Solution : rf2IP Internet-Connected Wireless M2M Network

The eDevice rf2IP solution enables unconnected devices to be accessed remotely through an Internet-connected wireless local network

Bordeaux, France - November 19th, 2004 -

eDevice (www.edevice.com), a leader in embedded Internet technology, today announced a new product: the rf2IP network. This complete “one-stop-shop” solution, also including an SDK for easy customization, allows an OEM to easily network several devices (sensors, captors, electric meters…) wirelessly and to access them from a remote computer connected to the Internet.

The rf2IP solution includes all the components required to create a customized wireless network:
-    the radio modules (eDnode) plug onto the devices to be connected;
-    the radio2Internet gateway (eDgate) connects the local radio network to the Internet;
-    the eDgate manages the local radio network – there is no need to use a corporate WiFi network;
-    the eDevice SDK allows for eDgate software customization

The rf2IP offer particularly suits connectivity needs for machine-to-machine (M2M) low bandwidth communications providing a 200 meters outside range and consumption optimization to comply with battery powered products. The bi-directional rf2IP network is built out of one eDgate and between one and sixteen eDnodes and operates in the ISM frequency band (868MHz/915MHz).

Application Example: the rf2IP solution allows to create a network of temperature sensors to monitor the food storage conditions in a warehouse. The same network can also connect sensors to visualize the state of the doors or actuators to trigger a local alarm. All the information can be logged and then sent weekly to an FTP server. An abnormal event detection will cause the sending of an email to a technician who can then monitor the levels of the sensors from his personal web browser.

Price & availability

This complete, powerful and easy to use one-stop-shop solution involves only minimal costs. The rf2IP  evaluation kit for PSTN for example costs only $500 and includes one eDgate for a regular phone line, two eDnodes, required cabling, and the eDevice SDK.

The eDevice rf2IP solution will be available from December 2004 with the standard eDevice rf2IP evaluation kits for PSTN, LAN or GPRS networks.

eDevice will showcase its rf2IP solution during Net-atHome 2004 exhibition in Nice, France, December 1 - 2 and the MD&M West 2005 (Electronics West 2005) in Anaheim, California, January 10 – 12.
