Automated Meter Reading (AMR) allows for remote reading of the meters through a one way transmission from the meters (water, gas, electricity, heat) to the back-office owned by the utility or by service providers (such as Google PowerMeter).

Automated Meter Management (AMM) allows for 2 ways communications between the meters and the back office thus paving the way for advanced control of the energy usage.
